Senegal and Russia have strengthened their diplomatic ties during a high-level meeting in Moscow between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Senegalese Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Yassine Fall.
The talks, during Fall’s official visit to Russia, focused on expanding economic, educational, and regional cooperation between the two nations despite the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Both ministers highlighted the historical ties between their countries and expressed optimism for the future.
Lavrov praised Senegal’s neutral stance on the Ukraine conflict during a joint press conference, emphasizing Russia’s commitment to keeping Senegal and other Global South nations informed about the situation.
Meanwhile, Fall affirmed Senegal’s ongoing investigation into the Ukrainian embassy’s activities in Dakar following controversial remarks by the Ukrainian ambassador about separatist movements in northern Mali.
Both ministers underscored the importance of their countries’ friendly relations, with Lavrov expressing confidence that Fall’s diplomatic expertise will further enhance their partnership.
