Explosion Rocks APC Secretariat in Port Harcourt Ahead of Local Government Elections

In the early hours of Saturday, the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was severely damaged by an explosion suspected to be caused by dynamite.

The blast destroyed the main gate, windows, and other property at the site, marking the second attack on the APC’s headquarters this year.

The incident occurred just hours before the local government elections, which the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission confirmed had all sensitive materials distributed to various local government areas.

Video footage circulating on social media captured the extent of the damage, with workers assessing the scene shortly after the explosion.

The state caretaker committee chairman of the APC, Chief Tony Okocha, attributed the attack to supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, referring to them as “pro-Fubara civilian soldiers.”

Okocha noted that a second attempt to set the building ablaze was thwarted by security personnel.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated she had not received a report on the incident but promised to provide updates.

The APC has yet to issue an official statement regarding the explosion.
