US Returns $52.88m Diezani Alison-Madueke’s Loot To Nigeria

Nigeria has received $52.88 million in recovered assets linked to former Minister of Petroleum Diezani Alison-Madueke from the United States.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, announced this during a formal signing ceremony of the asset agreement between Nigeria and the US in Abuja.

According to Fagbemi, $50 million of the recovered assets will be deployed through the World Bank for rural electrification projects, while the remaining $2 million will be used by the International Institute of Justice to expand the justice system and combat corruption.

The asset return marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between Nigeria and the US to combat corruption and uphold the rule of law.

Fagbemi also praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address corruption, noting that this recovery is a major step in that direction.

US Ambassador to Nigeria Richard Mills emphasized the importance of effective monitoring and utilization of the recovered assets to ensure they benefit Nigerians.

The recovered funds are part of the Galactica assets linked to Diezani Alison-Madueke, and their return is seen as a significant achievement in the fight against corruption.
