The Senate has confirmed three nominees appointed by President Bola Tinubu as National Electoral Commissioners and Resident Electoral Commissioner.
The confirmation came after the presentation and adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters at plenary.
The confirmed nominees are Tukur Abdulrazaq, representing the North West zone, Prof. Sunday Nwambam Aja, representing the South East zone, and Saseyib Feyijimi Ibeyemi, who will serve as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State.
Earlier, while presenting the report of the committee, Chairman Sen. Alli Sharafadeen said the three nominees were seasoned electoral managers who had been found suitable for the appointments. He noted that there were no petitions against the nominees, and therefore, recommended that the Senate confirm their appointments.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, who presided over the plenary, commended the committee for its input in the confirmation process. He urged the confirmed nominees to put in their best efforts in the discharge of their electoral duties, ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
The confirmation of the nominees is a significant step towards strengthening the electoral commission and ensuring the smooth conduct of future elections in Nigeria. The new commissioners are expected to bring their expertise and experience to bear in enhancing the electoral process and promoting democratic governance in the country.
