Controversial activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been arrested by operatives of the Nigerian police in Abuja.
According to his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, VDM was apprehended at Area 3 in Abuja following his public criticism of a new generation bank over alleged unauthorized transactions from his mother’s account.
The arrest has sparked concerns about the freedom of individuals to speak out against financial institutions. Adeyanju expressed his disapproval of the arrest, tweeting, “VDM arrested by the police at a bank. Spoke to them before he was arrested. This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime.”
In another tweet, Adeyanju provided more details about the arrest, stating, “A team of policemen arrested VDM at bank. He was arrested with his friend C Park but they left his mom alone.” The circumstances surrounding VDM’s arrest continue to unfold, with many awaiting further developments.
The incident has raised questions about the limits of free speech and the role of law enforcement in regulating disputes between individuals and financial institutions. As the situation develops, many are watching to see how the authorities will respond to the controversy.
