By Johnson Esther- Big Brother Naija Season 10 has introduced surprising twists that are quietly eating into the grand prize pot, without the knowledge of all the housemates. Two deals made via the red telephone have led to significant prize deductions, and both were carried out under a mandate of secrecy.
The most dramatic of these came when KayBobo answered Big Brother’s mysterious red phone. A voice on the other end offered him immunity from nominations and a guaranteed spot in the grand finale, but it would cost ₦10 million, to be deducted from the final prize money. KayBobo accepted the deal. Following that, Big Brother instructed him to keep the arrangement a secret from the other contestants.
Koyin answered a similar twist. The offer; visitation of the loved ones for all the housemates, but the catch was that it would cost ₦4,550,000 off the prize fund. Koyin accepted, again under conditions of confidentiality.
Because of these two deals, the total prize money has been reduced by ₦14.55 million so far. These secret moves shift the game in important ways. They affect what the winner will actually get, and they create information asymmetry where some housemates know (or participate in the deals), others do not.
As the finale approaches, fans and contestants alike may begin to wonder; will the true cost of these twists ever come fully to light? And if so, what does that mean for perceptions of fairness in the game?
