Abia Government to Convert Proposed Government House into Five-Star Hotel

The Abia State Government has announced plans to convert the proposed new Government House located at Ogurube Layout, Umuahia, into a five-star hotel.

This development was revealed on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, during a media tour of the site.

According to Kanu, the decision to repurpose the site reflects the government’s strategic vision to boost tourism and hospitality in the state. He also disclosed that a new Governor’s Office and lodge would be constructed within the premises of the current Government House complex.

In addressing speculations about the ownership of the existing Government House, Kanu clarified that the facility is not a rented property, contrary to widespread claims.

“Let me debunk another lie. Before now, they said that the current Government House was a rented apartment. But it is not a rented apartment,” he stated.

The move is part of a broader redevelopment effort aimed at optimizing government infrastructure and enhancing the state’s public image.
