The Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof. George Chima, has been abducted from his residence in Okigwe, Imo State.
According to sources, four armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, stormed his home while he was hosting a group of lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu, and took him away.
The gunmen reportedly attempted to abduct Prof. George Chima using his own vehicle, which his driver was washing at the time. However, their efforts were thwarted when the car failed to start.
An eyewitness recounted that the assailants then hijacked a passing vehicle transporting logs of wood and used it to escape with the ABSIEC chairman.
When contacted for a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Command, Maureen Chinaka, assured that she would provide an update but had yet to do so at the time of filing this report.
