Abuja To Experience Seven-Hour Power Outage As TCN Conducts Maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a planned seven-hour power outage in parts of Abuja for scheduled annual preventive maintenance on two transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the maintenance will be carried out on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.

As a result, power supply will be disrupted in several areas during the maintenance period.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has informed the public that its maintenance team will carry out annual preventive maintenance on the 2x100MVA, TR3 & TR4 transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja.

According to the statement, “The planned power interruptions are unavoidable, as Abuja DisCo will be unable to receive bulk power supply from the transformers during the maintenance period. Power supply will be restored to the affected areas upon completion of the maintenance exercise.”

A TCN official confirmed that on Saturday, February 22, power disruptions will impact the National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro for a duration of seven hours.

On Sunday, February 23, a seven-hour power outage will also affect areas including Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, Apo Mechanic, and surrounding communities.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) explained that the interruption is necessary because the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to receive bulk power supply from the affected transformers during the maintenance period.

TCN also apologized for any inconvenience caused, assuring customers that power supply will be restored once the maintenance is completed.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause the affected electricity customers,” the statement concluded.
