Adeleke Resigns From PDP Amid National Leadership Crisis

In a turn of events that sent ripples through Nigeria’s political arena, the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, announced his formal departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday night.

Through a heartfelt Instagram post, Adeleke revealed that he had submitted his resignation letter to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.

“Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership,” he wrote, attaching a copy of the letter that bore his signature.

The governor expressed deep gratitude to the party and its countless members and supporters, acknowledging the opportunities that had lifted him from the Senate to the governorship.

“I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State,” he added.

Earlier reports from the PDP’s state chapter had hinted that Adeleke was unlikely to seek the party’s nomination for the 2026 governorship election unless the internal conflicts were resolved.

Party leaders had clung to the hope that a resolution recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) might persuade him to stay.

However, the governor’s decisive step appears to close that door, at least for now.

The resignation comes at a time when the PDP is grappling with persistent leadership turmoil at the national level. Observers warn that Adeleke’s exit could reshape the political landscape of Osun State, prompting a scramble for new alliances ahead of the 2026 polls.

Whether he will join another party, launch an independent bid, or step back from the political stage remains an open question, but one thing is certain: the drama is far from over.
