Afam Osigwe Assumes Office as Nigerian Bar Association President

Afam Osigwe has officially assumed office as the 32nd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) after an inauguration ceremony held in Lagos on Thursday.

Osigwe, who was elected in July 2023, took over from Yakubu Maikyau, whose tenure ended today.

In the NBA presidential election, Osigwe secured 20,435 votes, representing 50.52% of the total, defeating Tobenna Erojikwe, who received 10,998 votes (27.19%), and Chukwuka Ikwuazom, who garnered 9,018 votes (22.29%).

The results were announced by Oluseun Abimbola, Chairman of the NBA’s Electoral Committee.

Previously serving as the NBA’s General Secretary, Osigwe emphasized his commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights during his tenure. He pledged that the NBA will hold federal and state governments accountable.

Expressing gratitude to NBA members for their trust, Osigwe vowed to work tirelessly for the benefit of both the association and the wider Nigerian society.
