Can you share a brief introduction to yourself and your influencer journey?
Hi my name is Belove Olocha, I am an actress, digital content creator, brand strategist, model and host.
My influencer journey started in 2023 when I was invited by TikTok to attend the private watch party of the movie ‘Gangs of Lagos’. I was in shock that Prime Video Naija wanted me as part of the influencers to grace their premiere and create contents for them. At the time I didn’t dem myself an influencer. I had just 50,000 followers. I always had this idea that influencers are those people with millions of followers, And I felt the invite I was seeing in my mail was probably a mistake, even though the invite had my name clearly written on it. After many reminder emails to RSVP, I decided to attend, and my God I was blown away. That imposter syndrome I was feeling instantly flew away with the wind and that moment was a turning curve for me.
What sparked your passion for brand influencing/ content creation?
I have always loved the camera, I consider myself a good orator. I love talking and feeling pretty in front to the camera; I love taking pictures and making goofy videos and at the time there wasn’t a name to it. With the rapid change in the digital and media space I decided to lean in more into my passion and start putting intentionality and professionalism into the content I create and the mediums at which I publish them. The brand influencing part came with growth. I didn’t start my journey to be a brand influencer, I started my journey because I love what I do and also to be seen, recognized and to be acknowledged.
How has your content style or niche evolved over time?
My content style has evolved and is still evolving, I want to be a blank billboard where I can be a conveyor and a mirror working with different brand, corporate body, individuals or organization.
What inspires your content ideas, and how do you stay creative?
I would say What inspires my content idea is myself and my audience. I create things I am In love with first, I put out contents I am proud of. I literally watch my content severally before publishing them. If I don’t feel any sense of satisfaction or if there is no take away from any content of mine, I don’t publish it.
Also I put myself in the shoes of my audience, what do they want to see. Is this content of any value, why should they stop and watch instead of swiping.
How do I stay creative? It’s simple, RELEVANCE. We live in a fast paced world, for you want to stay relevant you have to hone and evolve your craft to suite times and season.
What makes a brand partnership appealing to you, and how do you select collaborators?
What makes a brand partnership appealing to me is ‘Intent’. What is the intention of the brand, what is the purpose of the campaign.
For example, I have had a brand reach out to me to promote their services by diverting audience to their platform to watch movies on popular streaming platforms for a cheaper rate. After several meetings with them I clocked this was piracy, because they had no legal right to these movies. I immediately clocked out of the deal. I have also had successful brand collaborations that opened doors to bigger brand collaborations. For example, partnering with Team BBNaija to host eviction interviews for the evicted housemates opened a wider spectrum of possibilities for me. My career started soaring.
What advice would you give to emerging influencers navigating the industry?
Stay consistent, stay true to yourself, you don’t need to have one big gadget to start your journey. Start small and build up. I started with my phone and the sunlight because I didn’t have money to buy a ring light or any other lighting equipment. That didn’t stop me from showing up and showing out. I owned my journey, didn’t compare myself to others rather I used them as a prayer point telling God to help me, just as he has helped these other people.
What are your short-term and long-term goals as an influencer?
More than being an influencer I want to be a Global mega superstar. I want to be an A-list celebrity amongst A-list celebrities. I want to be a Global citizen. An Oscar’s award winning actress, a voice in the society, I want to be a strong nation after the order of Isaiah 60:22
