The final stage of the traditional rites (Oro Ipebi) for the Alaafin-elect, Oba Akeem Owoade I, is set to take place tonight at the Sango shrine in Koso, Oyo town.
According to a statement released on Friday by Bode Durojaiye, the Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Owoade will be accompanied by members of the traditional council, the Oyo Mesi, princes and princesses from all royal families, traditional religion priests, Baales (village heads), and a section of the local residents.
Durojaiye stated, “The royal father will spend the night at the shrine, where Baba Mogba will adorn him with the Sango crown in the early hours of Saturday, officially marking him as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.”
He added, “Immediately after the crowning, everyone present at the historic event, including members of the Oyo Mesi, will prostrate and hail the Alaafin with ‘Kabiyesi.’”
This ritual serves as a prelude to the official coronation ceremony, scheduled to take place on April 5, 2025, at the open field of Oliveth Heights, Oyo.
