A Lagos based make up artist, Ms Simbiat Abiola Ojobaro has stated that professional make up artists must constantly update themselves in the industry if they seek to be relevant to the needs of the clients.
In a chat with New Telegraph recently, she stated that the need for this is based on constant evolution of the profession, which she stated practitioners must be abreast of, with if they hope to keep pace with trends as well as to stay up in their game.
Ojobaro told our correspondent that “Our industry is very delicate and dynamic. This is because it is one sector that constantly evolving with many practitioners always trying out new things to be relevant in the game and that makes all of us to be constantly on our toes at all times.
“The need to stay updated and be relevantly creative can never be over-emphasised because for you to stay static and uncreative means you would be left behind by your peers who are constantly updating themselves and also experimenting with new creative innovations at all times,” she said.
According to her, creative thinking has greatly helped to win signature projects and activations and that she has refused to relent, adding “If you fail to think out of the box. Of you fail to do so, someone, somewhere is waiting to consign you into the dustbin of history.”
The industry icon who was recently the star attraction in the recently held Egbaganza in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital however stated that there is enough room for the growth of the industry considering the huge demand for the skills of the practitioners.
From that, she also secured major jobs featuring prominently in signature entertainment events such as, Felabration, an annual event marking the birthday anniversary of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
She has also continued to feature in the Honourable Trophy Beer televisions shows sponsored by the International Breweries as well as numerous concerts of popular musician, Mr. Sunny Nneji.
