Bureau Investigates Phillips Consulting Firm, UBA Over Violation Of Data Regulations

The Nigerian Data Protection Regulation, the National Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) is investigating Phillips Consulting firm and United Bank for Africa (UBA) PLC (NDPR).

In a statement released on Monday by Babatunde Bamigboye, the Legal, Enforcement, and Regulations Lead of the Bureau in Abuja, the National Commissioner of the NDPB, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, made this comment.

According to Olatunji, the beginning of the forensic inquiry was consistent with Article Four of the NDPR.

“The complaint against Phillips Consulting is in connection with the activities of online lending platforms who willfully breached the privacy of citizens.

“The investigation of UBA PLC pertains to allegations of infringement on the governing principles of data protection,” Olatunji said.

The NDPR requires organisations to conduct due diligence prior to beginning any data processing.

This is done to ensure that those responsible for any violation of the fundamental liberties and rights of data subjects are held accountable.

However, the Bureau issued a warning to all data controllers and processors urging them to avoid any data processing that would be harmful to the nation’s inhabitants, as well as its economy and security.

Phillips Consulting is a firm that provides transformation, technology and outsourcing services.
