Chinese Expatriates Abducted in Ogun State; Ransom Demanded

Two Chinese expatriates, Chen Wenguang and Liang Ding, have been kidnapped in Ogun State’s Kémta/Abule-Owu area along Onigbedu Road. The abduction occurred around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday when the two were en route to visit friends after leaving their workplace.

According to a police source who requested anonymity, Wenguang and Ding were affiliated with the Good One Carton Company in the area. They left the company without informing the company’s security or the assigned police and military personnel. They had only mentioned to a few individuals that they were heading to Kémta Village, roughly one kilometer away, to visit friends.

State command spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the abduction, noting that the kidnappers had contacted the company demanding ransom for the pair’s release. The company’s security supervisor reported receiving a call from one of the abducted individuals, who indicated that Wenguang and Ding were in captivity and that ransom was being demanded.

A search operation led by Ewekoro Division operatives, supported by local vigilantes, military personnel from the Social Orientation and Safety Corps, and local hunters, was conducted in the Kémta Village forest but did not yield the victims. Efforts to secure their release are ongoing.

In a related note, on May 3, 2024, three Indian nationals were also abducted on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway but were released after three days in captivity.
