A coalition of civil society organizations, led by the Rethink Africa Foundation, has expressed strong support for the appointment of Professor Amupitan as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a letter signed by Ifeanyi Agbo, Project Manager of Rethink Africa Foundation, the group cited Professor Amupitan’s impeccable credentials, integrity, and commitment to electoral reforms as reasons for their support.
The letter described the appointment as a “thoughtful and timely decision” that aligns with the urgent need to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral institutions.
The group praised Professor Amupitan’s advocacy for institutional accountability, legal reform, and professional ethics, values that align with their mission to promote democratic development and citizen empowerment.
“We are confident that your leadership will bridge the gap between policy and practice, and re-energize the Commission’s commitment to impartiality, innovation, and public trust,” the letter stated.
The Rethink Africa Foundation and its partners have pledged to collaborate with INEC to advance voter education, promote civic participation, and support inclusive democratic processes.
Professor Amupitan’s appointment has been hailed as a strong signal that Nigeria is ready to deepen electoral reforms through intellect, fairness, and courage.
