Dino Melaye Declares Decline of PDP, Accuses Party Leaders of Destruction

The 2023 Kogi State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dino Melaye, has announced that the party’s influence in Nigeria’s political landscape has drastically declined, accusing its leadership of privatizing and commercializing the organization.

Melaye, a former senator for Kogi West, pointed to acting PDP National Chairman, Iliya Damagum, National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and National Organizing Secretary, Umar Bature as the primary contributors to the party’s alleged downfall.

His remarks followed accusations from PDP lawmakers in the House of Representatives that Damagum and Anyanwu were working to undermine the party by supporting defected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in their attempt to impeach Governor Sim Fubara.

Despite the criticisms, Damagum dismissed calls for his resignation, stating that such attacks only serve to boost his popularity.
