The Eko Flavours Season 2 competition has taken a significant step forward with the unveiling of its Top 50 contestants.
The announcement was made at a special event held at the Lagos Fresh Food Hub, Idi Oro, Mushin, where the contestants were briefed on what to expect in the upcoming stages of the competition.
The event was a perfect blend of orientation, shopping experience, and a thought-provoking panel session that highlighted the importance of culinary innovation and entrepreneurship.
Eko Flavours, Africa’s premier culinary showcase, is powered by Culinara Group in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture & Food Systems. The competition aims to celebrate Lagos’ rich culinary culture, empower emerging chefs, and promote African cuisine globally. With its unique blend of competition, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and media amplification, Eko Flavours has become a launchpad for culinary talent in Africa.
The Top 50 contestants for Season 2 were selected from a pool of talented individuals from across Lagos. These contestants have demonstrated exceptional culinary skills, creativity, and passion for food. They will compete in a series of challenges that will test their skills, innovation, and ability to work under pressure. The contestants include emerging chefs and foodpreneurs who are eager to showcase their talents and make a name for themselves in the culinary industry.
Delivering the government’s goodwill message, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture & Food Systems, represented by Mrs. Oviebo, Director of the Lagos Fresh Food Hub, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to becoming Africa’s culinary capital. She emphasized that Eko Flavours is more than a competition; it is a platform for empowerment, cultural storytelling, and entrepreneurship. Through initiatives like Eko Flavours, the government aims to equip young talents with the skills and knowledge needed to turn their passion for food into sustainable businesses that positively impact the economy.
The Co-CEOs of Culinara Group, Ms. Jennifer Odufuwa and Mrs. Olufunke Adu, echoed the essence of the Eko Flavours project, underscoring its transformative role in creating pathways for young talents to transform their passion into sustainable businesses. Ms. Odufuwa remarked, “Eko Flavours Season 2 is not just about cooking; it’s about creating pathways for young talents to transform their passion into sustainable businesses. We are proud to see 50 incredible contestants stepping into this journey, and we are confident that their stories will inspire Lagos and the world.”
Mrs. Adu reinforced the vision, stating, “From day one, our vision has been clear: to build a platform that celebrates Lagos’ rich culinary culture while equipping chefs with the tools to thrive in today’s economy. The Top 50 represent creativity, resilience, and ambition. Their journey is proof that food is not just culture; it’s opportunity.” The Co-CEOs’ message resonated with the contestants, who are eager to learn, grow, and succeed in the culinary industry.
Chef Adeyinka Arije, Culinary Director of Eko Flavours Season 2, charged the contestants to rise to the occasion. “This Top 50 represents the best of Lagos’ culinary creativity,” he said. “We expect them not only to cook but to inspire, to create content, and to elevate their personal brands as ambassadors of Lagos cuisine.” The contestants were encouraged to take ownership of their culinary journey and to use the competition as a platform to showcase their talents and creativity.
Reflecting on the competition’s impact, Samuel Ejekukor, a 2024 alumni representative, encouraged the new cohort. “Eko Flavours changed my journey in ways I never imagined,” he said. “I urge this year’s contestants to give it their all; it’s more than cooking; it’s a life-changing experience.” Ejekukor’s testimony is a testament to the transformative power of Eko Flavours, which has helped many contestants to achieve their culinary dreams.
The Top 50 contestants are a diverse group of talented individuals who are passionate about food and culinary innovation. They include Olaoluwakitan Johnson, Akinnola Deborah Oluwadarasimi (Darah), Waliat Oluwatosin Adegbesan (Chef Liyah), and Olanrewaju Mazeedah Oyinkansola (Chef Zeedah), among others.
