The Federal Government has donated ₦500 million to the Nigerian Legion, as announced by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration Emblem and Appeal Fund Launch.
The event took place at the State House in Abuja and was attended by several dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.
President Bola Tinubu commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their unwavering efforts in combating security challenges, emphasizing that security is essential for peace and development. He expressed gratitude to the armed forces for their patriotic commitment to Nigerian unity, stability, and progress.
Tinubu also assured that the welfare of security forces would remain the government’s top priority.
The Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, appreciated President Tinubu’s support for the welfare of the armed forces, serving retired and fallen heroes, and their relations. He emphasized that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a call to action, reminding everyone of their collective responsibility to uplift the armed forces and their families.
The Appeal Fund launched during the event aims to provide essential support to veterans and their families, offering vital services such as healthcare, education, and financial assistance.
President Tinubu also honored the men and women who have paid the ultimate price in defence of the country, assuring that their sacrifices will not be in vain. He reiterated the government’s commitment to their values, principles, beliefs, and the unity and strength of the country.
The event served as a reminder of the importance of supporting the armed forces and their families.
