The Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing rural electrification through sustainable energy solutions, as demonstrated by the recent inauguration of the 100kWp Solar Hybrid Mini Grid in Uhuafor Nomeh, Enugu State.
This project, executed by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) through the federal government’s Rural Electrification Fund, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aims to provide clean energy access to hundreds of Nigerians.
The solar power initiative has the capacity to power three additional communities in Nomeh, namely Imeama, Amakabi, and Uhuorji, and is part of the REA’s efforts to strengthen collaborative engagements with state governments and deliver energy access solutions across communities nationwide.
The project’s inauguration comes at a time when there is a strong call for action on promoting safe and sustainable energy solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse emissions.
The Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah praised the project, stating that it would bring light to Uhuafor and neighboring areas, symbolizing hope, progress, and empowerment for rural communities across Enugu State. The project aligns with his administration’s agenda to foster innovation, improve rural infrastructure, and create a green, energy-sufficient Enugu.
The REA has been commended for their unwavering commitment to bridging the energy gap in Nigeria, particularly in unserved and underserved communities.
The solar power system comprises 256 solar panels, six inverters, and 26 battery banks, ensuring optimal performance and energy storage capabilities. An internet-enabled monitoring device allows for real-time tracking of energy production and consumption, facilitating the assessment of the system’s overall performance and efficiency.
The project is estimated to serve 10,000 residents, with an average daily efficiency of 72 percent.
The Traditional Ruler of Nomeh Untaeze, Lt. Col. Israel Mbah, expressed gratitude to the federal government, the REA, and Governor Mbah for initiating the project, assuring them that the community would protect and utilize the facility for the good of the people. The project is expected to have a transformative impact on the lives of the over 3,000 residents of the community, serving as a catalyst for social and economic growth.
