The Federal Government has announced the closure of Eko Bridge and its ramps in Lagos for eight weeks to facilitate essential asphalt resurfacing.
According to a statement from the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olukorede Kesha, the closure commenced on Friday, September 20, and will last until November 20.
Kesha explained that the Federal Ministry of Works is undertaking the project to address wear and tear on the bridge, which will involve milling the existing asphalt and relaying new layers to improve road safety and driving conditions.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during the closure. Kesha recommended that those traveling to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue should use the service lane at Alaka to connect Costain and access the bridge.
The closure will be complete in some sections of the bridge and partial in others, she added.
Despite the inconvenience, the project aims to enhance the overall driving experience on one of Lagos’ busiest routes.
Kesha emphasized that the repair work is necessary to ensure a smoother and safer roadway for all road users, particularly as the bridge has shown signs of significant wear over time.
Detours and alternative routes will be clearly marked to assist motorists during the period of the closure.
