A devastating fire outbreak occurred at a spare parts market in the Idumota area of Lagos State on Friday night, destroying property worth hundreds of millions of naira.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, multiple buildings used as shops for sales of car spare parts were razed in the inferno.
The fire incident was reported via the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency Lines at 2220hrs, prompting the activation of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s Emergency Response Teams.
The teams, comprising the LASEMA Shark Response Team, LASEMA Fire Unit, and LASEMA Tiger Response Team, worked together with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue and the Federal Fire Service to curtail the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining buildings.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, and no injuries were sustained during the inferno
However, the fire caused significant damage to the properties and goods worth hundreds of millions of naira. Efforts are ongoing to completely extinguish the fire, and recovery operations are still in progress.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has commenced “dampening down” to stamp out the remaining pockets of fire, while salvage operations are ongoing to recover valuable properties from the affected shops.
The agency is also working to determine the cause of the fire outbreak.
