Four times Aisha Buhari Made Controversial Headlines

The First Lady of Nigeria, like her husband President Muhammadu Buhari, has made headlines for controversial reasons. Mrs Buhari, a cosmetologist, beauty therapist and supposed mother of the nation, never fails to give us goosebumps once in a while. Here are four times why she made headlines:

Alleged arrest of an undergraduate

Aminu Adamu, a student of the Federal University, Dutse, was arrested for trolling the wife of the Nigerian President, Aisha Buhari, on Twitter.

He accused the First Lady of feeding fat from the country’s coffers.

He was remanded in a correctional facility in the country, charged to court and later sentenced to prison.

His arrest sparked outrage but Mrs Buhari is yet to comment on the matter.

Insensitive celebration of daughter In-law’s graduation

Mrs Buhari got tongues wagging on social media in September when she celebrated on Facebook the graduation of her daughter in-law, Zahra Buhari, from a foreign university.

This generated outrage as Nigerians argued that it was insensitive because it came when universities under ASUU had been on strike for months.

Gunshot in Aso Rock and Aisha Buhari’s fight with Buhari’s cousin

On June 11, 2020, amid the COVID lockdown, Mrs Buhari got into a fight with her husband’s aide and cousin, Sabiu Yusuf.

The argument reportedly started after Sabiu, who is said to be Buhari’s cousin returned to the Villa after a trip to Lagos, where he had gone to meet his wife who had just delivered a baby.

The First Lady, however, demanded that Sabiu self-isolate for 14 days so as not to endanger the first family.

The encounter degenerated into a heated argument between Sabiu and Aisha, as the President’s cousin maintained that he was not the only aide to travel to Lagos.

When the argument seemed to be getting too heated, the First Lady’s ADC, Usman Shugaba in an attempt to arrest Sabiu reportedly fired gunshots, but the president’s aide escaped to the nearby residence of President Buhari’s cousin, Mamman Daura, where he spent the night.

Aisha accused her ADC of fraud

In 2018 Mrs Buhari ordered the arrest of her Aide De Camp Sani Baban-Inna for allegedly duping many unsuspecting prominent personalities.

The First Lady claimed that Sani received a huge amount of money from politicians and businessmen on her behalf but kept it all to himself.
