An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has granted bail to Naomi Silekunola, the ex-queen of Ooni of Ife, and two others, who are standing trial for alleged manslaughter.
The court admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N10 million each with two reliable sureties.
The defendants, including Oriyomi Hamzat, a broadcaster and CEO of Agidigbo Radio FM, and Abdullahi Fasasi, the school principal of Islamic High School, are facing trial for the deaths of 35 children during a stampede at a Christmas funfair programme on December 18, 2024.
Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin, who delivered the ruling, stated that the Magistrate Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case due to the murder charge contained in the charge sheet.
He also emphasized that the incident was not a premeditated act, and therefore, the defendants were entitled to bail.
As part of the bail conditions, the defendants must submit their international passports to the court and refrain from granting any press interviews in print or social media during the trial.
