The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended voting hours in areas of Edo State where the governorship election began late.
This announcement was made by INEC’s National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna from the commission’s situation room at its National Headquarters in Abuja.
While INEC reported that polling commenced on time in many units, there were reports of delays in some locations. To ensure that all eligible voters have the chance to cast their ballots, the commission has confirmed that voting will continue past the official closing time in areas affected by the late start.

“Voting will be extended wherever it commenced late and will continue until the last voter on the queue who arrived at the Polling Unit by 2:30 p.m. has voted,” Haruna said.
INEC has instructed its office in Edo State to ensure that affected polling units and collation centers are provided with adequate power through back-up generators, ensuring a smooth process.
