JAKIN initiative, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has gifted school bags, pairs of sandals, and dozens of exercise books, among other educational items, to 1000 disadvantaged students across 12 LGAs in Lagos and Ogun States.
The occasion is part of its annual Dress a Child for School campaign commemorating World Literacy Day in 2022. This year’s edition is redesigned to accommodate the Lagos state ministry of education’s resumption date.
During the event, JAKIN provided disadvantaged students with essential items needed for students to resume school.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Olubukola Adebiyi thanked all the sponsors, including Gamesville Foundation, Falcon Corporation, Purple, Maryland ltd, Be Happy group, and Mariteam, for continuing to support the project despite the country’s economic hardship in recent months.
Mrs Adebiyi further said that the Dress a Child for School campaign has received recognition awards from the Lagos State Government Office of the Governor, the Ministry of Education, the Education Authority of the Mainland and seven other organisations.
Through the Dress a Child for School Project, the NGO has inspired hope amongst the weak, the oppressed and others.
Since 2010, 6500 orphans have benefited from the intervention, most of whom received school uniforms, school bags, pairs of sandals, dozens of exercise books, mathematical sets, and branded sets of stationery for secondary school, among other things.
On her part, The principal of Birrel Ave Senior High, Mrs Adenekan Olusola, a guest speaker at the event, stressed the value of good character and values in literacy while defining it as the ability to read, write, and communicate.
Mr Adams Olusoji, Chairman, Mainland Local Government PTA, stressed that parents should pay attention to their children’s struggles and advised youngsters to stay honest about their studies and avoid hostile peer groups.
The 1000 beneficiaries for this year’s Dress a Child project were drawn from 126 government primary and secondary schools across 12 Local Governments and partly Ogun State, including Mainland, Shomolu, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Mushin, Alimosho, Eti Osa, Oshodi, Isolo, Ajeromi, Surulere, and Ado Odo/ of Shagamu, as 59 primary schools, 36 Junior and 31 Senior secondary schools.
