Kaduna State Approves Recruitment Of 1,800 Health Workers

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved the recruitment of 1,800 health workers to address staffing shortages in Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across the state.

In a statement on Thursday, the Commissioner for Health, Umma Ahmad, announced that the initiative aims to reinforce Kaduna’s leadership in Primary Health Care services.

She emphasized that the recruitment will help bridge critical workforce gaps in healthcare facilities, ultimately reducing maternal and child mortality while improving the overall well-being of Kaduna residents.

Additionally, she highlighted the ongoing revitalization of 255 PHC centers, the deployment of state-of-the-art medical equipment, and the distribution of essential drugs across the state.

The Commissioner further stated that all 255 Primary Health Care (PHC) centers will be remodeled and upgraded to Level 2 status as part of Governor Uba Sani’s comprehensive health sector reform.

According to Umma Ahmad, the upgraded facilities will be equipped to manage uncomplicated diabetes and hypertension, provide resuscitation for severe asthma, assist with deliveries, and offer other essential healthcare services.

She added, “Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Sani has made the health sector a top priority, a commitment reflected in the numerous awards his administration has received.”

The governor’s efforts have earned him 10 national and international awards, including the prestigious Excellence Award from the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA).

The Commissioner emphasized that under the current administration, quality healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental human right.

She also highlighted Kaduna’s recognition as the best-performing state in Primary Health Care within the North West zone, an achievement acknowledged through the PHC Leadership Challenge award.
