The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has killed 28 terrorists in airstrikes in the Bassa community of Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State.
The operation, conducted on Wednesday, September 11, followed a request for air support from ground forces engaged in a firefight with over 100 terrorists.
According to a statement released on Thursday, September 12, by Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, NAF air assets carried out precision strikes on the terrorists’ positions after confirming the location of friendly troops.
The airstrikes were described as devastating, neutralizing dozens of terrorists in successive passes.
“As of the time of reporting, 28 bodies had been recovered from the target area, with several more terrorists, weapons, and burnt motorcycles still being cleared,” Ali stated.
He noted that the successful operation highlights the NAF’s commitment to combating terrorism and supporting other security agencies in the fight against criminality in Nigeria.
Ali assured that the NAF would continue air operations independently and alongside ground forces to eliminate threats to the nation’s peace and security.
