National Assembly, Benue Government Clash Over Killings

The House of Representatives and the Benue State Government are at odds over the recent surge in killings in the state.

Deputy Spokesman Philip Agbese attributed the violence to Governor Hyacinth Alia’s alleged abandonment of the state’s anti-open grazing law.

However, Governor Alia fired back, accusing Agbese of lacking knowledge on how laws are handled in state legislatures.

The disagreement comes amid a spike in attacks, with at least 56 people killed in Ukum and Logo Local Government Areas over the past three weeks.

Governor Alia has appealed for federal intervention to stop the violence.

The National Assembly resumed from recess today, after a prolonged break marked by Eid-el-Fitr and Easter celebrations, further extended due to the Workers’ Day celebration.
