National Assembly Postpones Plenary Resumption to May 6

The National Assembly has postponed the resumption of plenary sessions for both the Senate and the House of Representatives to Tuesday, May 6, 2025, a week later than the initially scheduled date of April 29, 2025.

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, made the announcement in a formal notice sent to lawmakers. According to Ogunlana, the extension is to allow senators and members of the House of Representatives participate in the Workers’ Day celebration and attend to other important engagements within their constituencies.

“I am directed to inform distinguished senators, honourable members, and the general public that the two Houses of the National Assembly have extended the date for the resumption of plenary sessions from Tuesday, 29th April 2025, to Tuesday, 6th May 2025,” the notice read.

Ogunlana added that the extension was granted in consideration of national events and constituency responsibilities.

He further expressed regrets over any inconvenience the change may cause and appreciated the understanding of lawmakers and the public.

The National Assembly had initially planned to resume on April 29 following a legislative break.
