Ned Nwoko Resigns From PDP, Cites Unresolved Party Conflict

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party he has been a member of since its inception in 1999.

In a resignation letter dated January 30 and addressed to the party leadership in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nwoko expressed his dissatisfaction with the party’s current state. He cited deep divisions and irreconcilable factions as the key reasons for his decision to leave. The letter was sighted on Friday.

Senator Ned Nwoko cited deep divisions and internal factionalism within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the primary reason for his resignation, stating that these issues have hindered unity and the advancement of collective interests.

“My decision to resign is first and foremost due to the deep divisions and factionalisation within the party. This fragmentation has made it increasingly difficult to foster unity and advance the collective interests of our people,” Nwoko said.

He further lamented recent incidents that highlighted the party’s internal turmoil.

“Just this week, on January 29, top party functionaries stooped to the lowest levels, engaging in physical altercations as a result of the ongoing factions, which have become irreconcilable,” he revealed.

Despite his departure, Nwoko expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided him during the 2022/2023 senatorial elections, allowing him to connect directly with his constituents.

However, Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on the promises he made during his campaign, emphasizing that the party’s current structure in Delta State has hindered his efforts.

“Regrettably, the current structure of the party in our state has not been conducive to realizing these promises. After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the party is necessary to fulfill my obligations to my people,” he stated.

Despite his resignation, Nwoko reassured his constituents of his continued dedication to serving them and advocating for their interests.

As he parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ned Nwoko reassured party members and his constituents of his continued commitment to statesmanship.

“While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship,” he stated.

Nwoko, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, emphasized that his decision was driven by the best interests of those he represents.

“My decision is rooted in the best interest of those I serve, and I remain committed to the progress and prosperity of our state and nation,” he added.

He expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership and its members for their support over the years and wished the party continued success in its future endeavors.
