On Monday, Mojisola Meranda officially assumed her role as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, moving into the Speaker’s office at the Assembly Complex.
Videos shared on social media captured her supporters offering prayers and expressing gratitude as she took up her new position.
Meanwhile, security has been intensified at the Assembly Complex ahead of the scheduled plenary session on Monday. This development comes amid speculation of a possible confrontation, as the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, declared on Saturday that he still holds the position of Speaker.
Mudashiru Obasa was replaced by Mojisola Meranda as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly on January 13, 2025, following his removal by the majority of House members over allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation.
On Saturday, Obasa denied the allegations and challenged the lawmakers to provide evidence to support their claims.
Today’s plenary marks the third session presided over by Meranda since Obasa’s removal, with the former Speaker notably absent from the previous two sittings.
