The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has categorically denied reports claiming that Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, has received an extension of his tenure.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the NCS labeled these reports as “inaccurate and misleading”.
According to Abdullahi Maiwada, Assistant Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, the NCS was reacting to a fake release allegedly from the State House regarding Adeniyi’s continued leadership. Maiwada emphasized that appointments and tenure extensions for the Comptroller-General position fall solely under the President’s discretion, in line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other relevant regulations.
“The attention of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been drawn to a fake release allegedly from the State House regarding an extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR. The NCS wishes to categorically state that this information is inaccurate and misleading,” the statement read.
The NCS reassured the public of its commitment to trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security, highlighting the agency’s modernization initiatives under Adeniyi’s leadership. The Customs Service also urged the public to rely solely on official channels for information, warning against the spread of misinformation.
