On Wednesday evening in Malabo, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and President Teodoro Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea formalized a significant agreement on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project.
This accord addresses various aspects including the pipeline’s legislative and regulatory framework, its establishment and operation, and the principles governing the transit and ownership of natural gas.
During his visit to Equatorial Guinea, President Tinubu emphasized that this agreement will not only enhance gas exploration but also create job opportunities. He highlighted the productive discussions held with President Mbasogo on topics such as employment creation, food security, and conflict resolution across the continent.
President Tinubu stressed the need for Africa to address its own challenges, drawing parallels with the solutions found in Europe and America. He noted the importance of capital, industrialization, and development programs to navigate these issues.
Equatorial Guinea’s President Mbasogo underscored the strategic significance of the agreement for Africa’s development and reiterated the long-standing beneficial relationship between the two nations. He also supported Africa’s goal of securing a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and committed to working with Nigeria towards this end.
The agreement was signed by Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar and Equatorial Guinea’s Foreign Affairs Minister Simeon Esono, with key figures from both governments in attendance.
