During a sermon on Sunday, Pastor Oluwaseyi Adetayo of Christ Pavillion, a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), threw his support for Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Adetayo shocked members of the church, located in Lambe, Ifo LGA, Ogun State when he told the church’s media team to switch off the camera used to televise his Sunday sermon.
The Pastor said he wanted to talk about a sensitive issue, so the camera needs to be switched off. He proceeded in praising Tinubu while criticising Peter Obi’s leadership ability.
According to a member of the church who spoke on condition of anonymity, due to her role in the church, Adetayo said Tinubu is not as bad as he has been portrayed.
The clergyman said the former Lagos State governor knows the economy better than President Muhammadu Buhari and Obi, who is also vying for the Presidential seat in Aso Rock.
He explained that Tinubu built Lagos into what it is today, while Obi preferred to invest in other states, like building Supermarkets, instead of situating the business in Anambra, the state he was previously a governor of.
Adetayo’s statement was not well received by some of his congregation, as some youth walked out on him during the service, the church member said.
The Pastor was unperturbed as he went on to ask the congregation to clap if they agree with him. Following mixed reactions, Adetayo said he asked them to clap to know those that didn’t agree with him.
He went on to state that people clamouring for integrity want Obi, the same situation that made Nigerians end up with Buhari, who was fighting corruption.
Adetayo said fighting corruption affected Nigeria’s economy, as people that stole took their money out of the country instead of investing it in Nigeria.
Paraphrasing what Adetayo said, the church member said the Pastor argued that corruption is the bedrock of society, and the world cannot live without corruption.
He said corrupt people will build houses and companies, which will lead to job creation in the country. During the service, the pastor also stated every politician is a thief, and none of the presidential candidates is there for the good of the country, but Tinubu is generous.
His statement provoked a question from one of the church members, who asked if the pastor was speaking in favour of corruption and if he was saying that integrity is a wrong value to have.
According to Ripples Nigeria Adetayo told the member she should keep her questions for the mid-week service.
