Nigerian Trainee Pilot Blamed For Flight Accident That Killed Instructor In US

A Nigerian trainee pilot, Identified as Oluwagbohunmi Ayomide Oyebode has been blamed for causing a flight accident, which led to the death of a flight instructor in Virginia, United States.

It was reported that the Swedish flight instructor, Viktoria Theresie Izabelle Ljungman was killed in the Virginia plane crash after Ayomide, 18 she was teaching, pointed the nose of the aircraft too high, causing it to stall and plummet into the ground.

 

Around 3pm on Thursday, Oyebode and Viktoria were said to have got into a plane for a lesson.

 

According to the report, tragedy struck when Oyebode pointed the nose up at too steep an angle during take-off. That made the aircraft stall at around 100 feet and led the plane to crash into a ditch, according to WMAR.

 

Viktoria, who was a licensed commercial pilot and lived in Williamsburg, Va., after graduation, was pronounced dead on the scene.

 

Viktoria, 23 attended Virginia’s Hampton University on a tennis scholarship, eventually becoming a flight instructor.

 

Oyebode, a Maryland native, and another 18-year-old male were the only other people on the plane. They were taken to a local hospital with what was described as life-threatening injuries.

 

The university released a statement that only commented on the two young men, saying, “Hampton University is aware of the unfortunate accident that occurred today involving two of our students. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation. Out of respect for the students and their families we have no further comment at this time.”
