NITDA, Partners Host Summit to Drive Nigeria’s IPv6 Adoption

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with Huawei, the IPv6 Forum, and the IPv6 Council Nigeria, has hosted an IPv6 Driven Digital Summit to accelerate Nigeria’s transition to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).

The summit, themed “Bringing Net 5.5G Into Reality: Inspiring New Growth,” emphasized the critical need for Nigeria to adopt IPv6 to meet future internet demands and fuel the nation’s digital revolution.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani highlighted IPv6 as essential for Nigeria’s digital transformation during his keynote address.

He stressed the importance of investing in protocos like IPv6 to protect society and unlock economic opportunities, noting that the current transition strategy lacks a focus on economic benefits for Nigerians.

Dr. Tijani warned against creating business opportunities solely for foreign companies and called for building a local workforce to support IPv6 adoption.

NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi reiterated the government’s commitment to accelerating digital growth under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s strategy of industrialization and innovation, with IPv6 as a key component.

Industry experts at the summit underscored the potential of IPv6 to keep Nigeria competitive in the global digital economy and combat cybercrime, with the event’s outcomes expected to drive the country’s adoption of the protocol.
