NLC President Joe Ajaero Returns After Police Invitation, Reaffirms Labour’s Patriotism

The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, returned to the Labour House on Thursday after honouring an invitation from the police.

Ajaero, who was accompanied by human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, and others, arrived at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday morning and left around 11:15 a.m. after writing his statement.

While Ajaero did not address journalists at the police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) headquarters, he promised to speak at the NLC headquarters.

His invitation, reportedly linked to an investigation into terrorism financing, sparked controversy, with the NLC and other labour unions accusing the Federal Government of trying to intimidate labour leaders.

Addressing a crowd of supporters at the NLC headquarters, Ajaero described the labour movement as the most patriotic organisation in the country and vowed that the union would not compromise its principles.

“The labour movement is worth dying for because of its patriotism and commitment,” he said, adding that the NLC’s loyalty has been steadfast from colonial times to the present day.

“We are more patriotic than any other institution you can think of in this country, and we are going to continue to be that,” Ajaero asserted, reaffirming the NLC’s commitment to its cause despite the challenges it faces.
