NLC to Hold Nationwide Prayer March in Solidarity with President Ajaero

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on its members nationwide to participate in a peaceful prayer procession on August 29 to show solidarity with its president, Joe Ajaero, following his summons by the police.

In a letter addressed to all NLC affiliates and state councils, the General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, announced the planned march in response to Ajaero’s scheduled interrogation over charges of “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.”

Ugboaja instructed all members in Abuja to gather at the NLC’s National Headquarters at 8:00 am to accompany Ajaero to the police, while those in state capitals should meet at their respective state secretariats before proceeding to their State Police Headquarters.

He emphasized that the march would be peaceful, aiming to resist attempts to “intimidate” the NLC leadership and suppress the voices of Nigerian workers.

Ugboaja warned that should Ajaero be detained, all workers would commence an indefinite strike.

The NLC urged its members to remain calm and orderly throughout the event and affirmed their commitment to defending civic rights and upholding justice.
