The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has responded to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s doubts about the operational status of the rehabilitated Port Harcourt and Warri refineries.
According to NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, the refineries are undergoing a comprehensive overhaul designed to meet world-class standards.
Soneye clarified that the rehabilitation work done at the 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) Port Harcourt Refinery and Warri Refinery was routine maintenance and a thorough overhaul aimed at meeting global standards.
He also noted that similar efforts are underway at the second Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries.
The NNPC Ltd. has invited Obasanjo to visit the rehabilitated refineries and witness the progress made under the company’s leadership. Soneye emphasized that NNPC Ltd. values Obasanjo’s wisdom and experience, and respects his right to speak on matters of national importance.
In addition, Soneye highlighted NNPC’s transformation into a private entity, transitioning from a loss-making organization to a profit-oriented global energy leader.
The company has expanded beyond oil and gas to become an integrated energy company, focusing on developing cleaner, cheaper, and sustainable energy solutions to meet Nigeria’s growing demands.
