NSCDC Unveils 2025 Strategy To Combat Illegal Mining

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals have announced their strategic operational plans for 2025, emphasizing intensified field operations, enhanced regulatory compliance, and a renewed crackdown on illegal mining activities. The marshals also plan to strengthen their collaboration with the Mining Cadastre Office to improve the effectiveness of their mandate.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Corps’ spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi. In the statement, the Director-General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, Obadiah Nkom, praised the mining marshals for their resilience and commitment, despite the challenges faced in the fight against illegal mining.

Nkom applauded their professionalism in safeguarding the nation’s economy from saboteurs, highlighting their ability to resist threats, financial inducements, and external pressures to remain steadfast in their duties. He further stated that the NSCDC Mining Marshals have played a huge role in advancing the mining sector, significantly contributing to national economic development and environmental sustainability.

The NSCDC Mining Marshals, led by Squad Commander AC John Attah, reiterated their commitment to clamping down on illegal operators. Attah assured that legitimate mineral titleholders would be protected and supported in accessing their resources without interference.
He also noted that the existing collaboration with the Cadastre Office would be instrumental in addressing environmental and community challenges associated with unauthorised mining activities.

Nkom also commended the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Audi, noting that his guidance has driven significant progress within the Corps and the mining sector.

“We must recognize the dedication of the NSCDC Mining Marshals under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Audi, whose efforts have brought remarkable transformation to the mining industry. The Corps remains a formidable force in combating the threats that undermine our nation’s economic potential and environmental sustainability,” he stated.

To further solidify the sector, the Mining Cadastre Office outlined plans for system upgrades, including the automation of services and the streamlining of license verification processes to improve transparency and ensure regulatory frameworks.
