The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Rifkatu Yakubu, has advised female corps members to return home to their parents after completing their service, rather than going to their boyfriends’ houses.
Yakubu made this remark during the distribution of National Service certificates to corps members, emphasizing the importance of sharing this milestone with family.
“Ladies, please remember that your boyfriends are not your parents,” Yakubu said. “Go back home to your parents and celebrate with them. You have just completed your national service, and this is a moment to share with your family.”
Yakubu also encouraged corps members to utilize the skills they acquired through the NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program. She advised them to invest their final allowance wisely, consider learning a trade, and support their parents instead of sitting idle.
Furthermore, Yakubu cautioned corps members against engaging in fraudulent activities such as internet fraud, kidnapping, or ritual killings in pursuit of quick wealth. She reminded them that these actions are not in line with the values instilled by the NYSC and urged them to represent their families and the NYSC well.
In a related development, 11 serving corps members in Katsina had their service year extended for various breaches. NYSC Coordinator in Katsina, Ibrahim Sa’idu, commended the 859 corps members who completed the service year without any disciplinary issues and urged them to be good ambassadors of the scheme.
