In a welcome development, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has announced that corps members across Nigeria will begin receiving a new monthly allowance of N77,000 starting in March 2025.
This increase is a significant improvement from the previous stipend of N33,000.
General Nafiu reassured corps members that the NYSC management and the Federal Government are committed to their welfare, emphasizing that their well-being remains a top priority. He also praised the corps members for their dedicated service to the nation, urging them to remain calm, focused, disciplined, and dedicated in their duties.
The increase in allowance was approved and budgeted for, but its implementation was delayed. As of February 2025, corps members were still receiving the old allowance of N33,000. However, with the new allowance set to commence in March 2025, corps members can look forward to a significant improvement in their financial support.
Corps Member Zaka Deborah Alheri praised General Nafiu for his dedication to ensuring the prompt implementation of the increased allowance, expressing appreciation for the NYSC leadership’s commitment to the welfare of corps members.
