Ogun NSCDC Parades Suspects for Vandalism and Impersonation

The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) presented two suspects to the public on Tuesday for their involvement in vandalism and impersonation.

The 30-years-old suspect, Oluwatobi Salami, was apprehended by the Sagamu community near the OGD International Market on Saturday. He was allegedly found impersonating officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Army. Salami was discovered in possession of EFCC jackets and military attire. The NSCDC Commandant, David Ojelabi, indicated that Salami would be transferred to the relevant authorities for further investigation.

Another suspect, 20-year-old Idris Zakari from Bagudu Local Government, Kebbi State, was arrested on August 9, 2024, at a railway site in Ifo Local Government Area for vandalizing railway clips. He was initially detained by the So-Safe Corps before being handed over to the NSCDC for further processing.

Ojelabi condemned the vandalism of government property as economic sabotage and emphasized the NSCDC’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies and the public to combat crime in the state.

Salami confessed to journalists that he stole the EFCC uniforms from a hotel in Lekki, Lagos, and had fabricated a military vest with Nigerian Army insignia to bolster his impersonation. He expressed deep remorse for his actions and pleaded for leniency, citing the loss of his parents.
