Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative Agenda, has empowered over 200 farmers, including women and youths from various communities in Anambra State.
The beneficiaries received a range of agricultural tools and resources to enhance their farming activities and boost food production.
The support package included farm implements, feed processors, grinding machines, seedlings, and other essential items aimed at improving their livelihoods and agricultural productivity.
Speaking at the presentation of the items at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, on Wednesday, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, emphasized that the initiative was part of the “Renewed Hope Agricultural Support Programme” under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Represented by the Anambra State First Lady, Dr. Nonye Soludo, she highlighted the significance of the program, noting its positive impact on the beneficiaries, their families, the community, the state, and the country as a whole.
She urged the recipients to make good use of the items rather than sell them, reminding them that they had been trained in feed processing, vegetable farming, drip irrigation installation, and piggery. According to her, these skills provide a foundation for learning, development, and financial independence.
She emphasized that the beneficiaries were not only expected to gain employment through the initiative but also to lead by example, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps and create a ripple effect within their communities.
“This event holds significance for two key reasons,” she stated. “First, from today onward, your life will take on a greater impact—one that extends beyond you to benefit your family, community, Anambra State, and our beloved country as a whole.
“Secondly, you have undergone a comprehensive training program that has prepared you for this moment. Each of you was selected through a transparent and random process.”
She further explained that the Renewed Hope Agriculture Support Programme is a medium-scale agro-support initiative designed for individuals with a genuine passion for agriculture and agribusiness. The beneficiaries have been trained in various areas, including feed processing, vegetable farming, drip irrigation installation, and piggery. According to her, these skills provide a strong foundation for learning, growth, and long-term financial sustainability.
“We were highly intentional in every step leading up to this phase,” she stated. “In strict adherence to the program’s directives, as instructed by the First Lady, we ensured that each of you leaving here today receives something truly worth the wait.”
She emphasized that the beneficiaries now have a responsibility to pass on their knowledge. “We have trained you, and now it is your turn to train others. Through this cycle, we can combat unemployment and poverty, foster financial independence, create better income opportunities, drive financial growth, and strengthen our economy.”
She further explained that the selection process was carefully structured to ensure fair representation. Participants were chosen from various groups, including women’s organizations, youth associations, political groups, and school clubs, bringing together a diverse yet like-minded group of individuals. According to her, these beneficiaries share the program’s foundational vision and are committed to making a meaningful impact through the opportunities it provides.
“The President’s wife is immensely proud of your tenacity, commitment, belief, and sacrifice. I am personally impressed by your zeal, brilliance, and passion. We are all incredibly proud of you.”
“Today, you are heading home with the well-earned rewards of your dedication. Nothing could be more deserving. You have poured your time, energy, and trust into this program—giving it your all. Now, the benefits are right before you.”
She emphasized that economic empowerment remains a key focus of the Renewed Hope Initiative, which has consistently fulfilled its promise to support both women and youth across the six geopolitical zones, aligning with the administration’s economic reforms under President Bola Tinubu.
“We understand that empowering women and youth is not just a moral obligation but a strategic one,” she added. “When they thrive, their families thrive, and in turn, our communities and the entire nation prosper.”
“As you return home with these valuable items, I urge you to make the best use of them,” she said. “You have been empowered for a specific purpose, and we expect you to make it count. What you are receiving today is not meant to be sold or diverted for any purpose outside the objectives of this program. Use them wisely, work hard, and maximize the benefits they offer.”
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Foster Ihejiofor, emphasized that agriculture goes beyond just feeding people—it plays a crucial role in shaping the nation’s future.
He highlighted the ongoing efforts to address food security challenges, stressing that continuous intervention is essential to overcoming these issues. According to him, the ministry is committed to supporting initiatives that help women and youth thrive in agriculture. He further noted that equipping young farmers with the right knowledge, skills, and resources will drive food security, reduce poverty, and enhance economic growth.
