Edo North Senator Adams Oshiomhole on Saturday claimed that the state’s embattled Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Oshiomhole attributed Shaibu’s decision to frustration caused by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Oshiomhole made the remarks during the APC governorship campaign’s grand finale at the University of Benin. He accused Governor Obaseki of diverting federal funds meant for state projects into personal use and condemned the governor’s refusal to sign the Peace Accord ahead of the September 21 election.
Obaseki and Shaibu have had a strained relationship, which led to Shaibu’s impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly.
However, an Appeal Court in Abuja recently reinstated him as deputy governor.
Oshiomhole further alleged that Obaseki was complicit in the death of a police officer attached to the APC’s governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo.
