Osun APC Criticizes Adeleke’s Family for N1 Billion Church Donation Amid State Financial Struggles

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed strong disapproval of the N1 billion donation made by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s family to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Lagos, calling it morally questionable given the state’s financial challenges.

The donation, announced by Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, elder brother of Governor Adeleke, during a church program, has sparked widespread criticism.

The APC’s state chairman, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, stated that the donation was ill-timed, considering Osun’s near-insolvency and the pressing financial obligations facing the state.

Lawal emphasized that while supporting religious groups is not inherently wrong, such actions should be carried out with greater discretion.

He suggested that the donation might have been funded by the state’s scarce resources and criticized the governor’s public conduct, questioning his priorities given his silence on the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage for state workers.

In response, the governor’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, clarified that the N1 billion donation was made solely by Dr. Deji Adeleke, with no involvement of state funds.

Rasheed dismissed the APC’s claims as unfounded, highlighting that Dr. Adeleke has a history of making substantial donations, even during the previous administration led by APC’s Gboyega Oyetola.
