Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have condemned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his threat to destabilize states governed by PDP members for supporting Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Emmanuel Agbo, the governors described Wike’s threats as “irresponsible” and vowed to stand by Fubara.
The dispute between Wike and his successor, Fubara, escalated after the PDP governors recently endorsed Fubara’s leadership in Rivers PDP, urging him to take control of the party’s affairs in the state.
Reacting to the governors’ stance, Wike, during a speech in Port Harcourt last weekend, warned them against interfering in Rivers’ politics, threatening to stir crises in their states if they continued to support Fubara.
The PDP governors, under the chairmanship of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, dismissed Wike’s threats as baseless and affirmed their commitment to peace and party unity.
They insisted that Fubara, like any governor, deserved to lead the party in his state, just as Wike did when he was governor.
They called on the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to intervene and resolve the political crisis in Rivers State, urging all parties, including Wike, to engage in dialogue and reconciliation instead of personal grudges.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Hassan Hyat criticized Wike’s stance, describing it as “strange and unhelpful.” He urged Wike to collaborate with fellow party members and avoid actions that could harm the PDP.
