The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its ambition to secure more governorship positions and regain national leadership in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) emphasized its readiness to address the nation’s economic challenges and provide an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during a visit to Governor Douye Diri at his hometown, Sampou, in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, PDP National Treasurer Ahmed Yayare expressed confidence in the party’s capacity to lead.
According to Yayare, the current economic hardship has heightened public discontent, making PDP the only viable opposition capable of restoring stability.
“The cry of hunger and poverty is too much in the land. The APC cannot go out to campaign because they will be stoned. Nigeria is in your hands. We need your support to salvage Nigeria,” Yayare stated. He also urged party governors to collaborate in strengthening PDP’s position ahead of the elections.
Governor Diri, in response, underscored the importance of unity among PDP governors and members. He called for consensus-building and internal conflict resolution, warning that posterity would judge the party’s leaders harshly if they allowed the PDP to falter.
“It is PDP that has made most of us. We cannot be in PDP in the daytime and at night be in another party. We need to do in-house cleansing,” Diri remarked, reiterating his commitment to the party’s progress.
The NWC also used the visit to pay condolences to Governor Diri over the recent deaths of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Moses Jituboh and Bayelsa’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, Elizabeth Bidei.
The PDP National Secretary, Ude Okoye, pledged the committee’s dedication to repositioning the party and demonstrating its capability to offer quality leadership.
Okoye praised Diri’s developmental strides in Bayelsa and highlighted the need for the party to remain united in its quest to regain national prominence.
This development comes as the PDP gears up to challenge APC dominance and re-establish itself as a formidable force in Nigerian politics.
